Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra at LACMA, 6 p.m.

Legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo and his all-star band open the 2014 Jazz at LACMA season. Escovedo is an artist who broke down the barriers between jazz, salsa, Latin jazz, and contemporary music, and he has been a regular feature of the music industry for more than 50 years. Escovedo began his career in the 1970s with guitarist Carlos Santana and has performed and toured with many artists, including Herbie Hancock, Mongo Santamaria, Bobby McFerrin, Cal Tjader, Al Jarreau, Arturo Sandoval, Poncho Sanchez, Chick Corea, and Tito Puente. At this inaugural performance for 2014 Jazz at LACMA, Escovedo pays tribute to his friend and colleague George Duke, who passed away last year.

Presented as part of Jazz at LACMA taking place every Friday through November. Check out the full schedule of upcoming concerts.
