BOMBAZO IN SAN DIEGO - March 14, 2008

Areito Borincano is an organization dedicated to the preservation of the afro-Puerto Rican tradition.  Last week it held an event at the Voz Alta art space called "Bombazo."  Bomba is a Puerto Rican genre of music geared so that the dancer will "challenge" the drum players to follow their body movements with a slap on the drum.

This was an authentically Puerto Rican event.  The only other time I've ever seen anything like it was in Puerto Rico itself.  Attending an Areito Borincano event may not make your regular salsa-at-the-club-dance-night but it will certainly teach you a few things about body movement and connection to the music.
