THE BOOGALOO ASSASSINS AT THE CONTINENTAL ROOM, IN FULLERTON - June 20th, 2008

The Boogaloo Assassins played at the Continental Room, in Fullerton, on Friday night.  The Continental Room is said to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, bars in the Fullerton area.  It is a cool hangout, deep rather than wide, with a small stage and dance area, tables that must be reserved ahead of time (for a big pri$e), a pool table, and a smoking patio.  It is located at the south end of the downtown Fullerton strip, at 115 West Santa Fe Ave.

The Boogaloo Assassins are a Los Angeles group influenced by the sounds of Cuba, Puerto Rico and Spanish Harlem, which they mix with funk, boogaloo, and soul.  The result is a fun sound, familiar but with a twist.  Friday night, besides their permanent crew, they had bassist Eddie Resto on stage.  Eddie Resto has played the bass around the world with artists like Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon, and Ruben Blades.  The Boogaloo Assassins had a musical gem with them!

The DJ, or DJs, had an incredible collection of records and were actually spinning!  That was beautiful.  The audience was a good mixed bunch of cool looking people.  The happiest were the ones who could hang with their friends and appreciate the music for itself.  The frustrated ones were those who need their space to twirl... the Continental has no space for that.  So the majority had a grand time.  And why wouldn't anyone! on a night with fun music, and in a place with no cover charge and strong margaritas at a moderate price!?!
