A VISIT WITH 'CANTO TROPICAL' - July 21, 2007

I do not know how many people listened to the Canto Tropical radio show this past Saturday, but I do know this first time experience of mine was a blast.

The Canto Tropical radio show airs every Saturday from 8 pm to 10 pm on 90.7 FM in Los Angeles, 98.7 FM in Santa Barbara, and to the world, online, at http://www.kpfk.org.  The show's hosts are, (and you can see them in order from left to right in the picture below):  Kathy "La Rumbera Diaz", Hector "La Voz" Resendez, Armando "El Caballero Salsero" Nila, and "Mambo" Marcos Nila (last one in the picture is me - boo!).

These guys kindly opened their doors to me this past Saturday to go over and make a little noise for VidaSalsera.com.  But it was a busy show!

Josephine Powell was there to talk about her book, "Tito Puente - When The Drums Are Dreaming," which you can check out HERE

Luisito Carrion was there to talk about his performance on Sunday at the Colombian Festival in Pico Rivera.

Justo Almario and two other gentlemen were there to speak about the August 5th Colombian event at the Ford Theater (see it listed on my main calendar.)  You can listen to Justo Almario at http://www.myspace.com/justoalmario

Maria Costa was there to talk about her show, "Macho Men and the Women that Love Them", coming up at the Kodak Theater, which by the way, will mark the first solo show ever done by a Latina at the Kodak!

And I was there to tell people to come over and visit me here.  In the process, I scored some great pictures and had some very nice conversations.

I can see why "Los Salsavajes" love it there.  Of course I was totally freaked, in the sound proof room with a huge mic in my face, not knowing what I'd say or how I'd sound, while Marco talked away with his radio-personality-voice just a seat away from me, but I can see how with practice, once the blood pressure attack and the shaking go away, I would  also love it!

It was fun!  I thank Canto Tropical for having me over and I encourage everyone to listen to the show every Saturday night!
