Grand Opening of Salsa Mondays at Havana House, in Alhambra - Jan. 19, 2009 For those of us who live in the East side of town, and those of us who like cigars, beer, sports and noise, the coolest place in Alhambra has just opened for Salsa on Monday nights from 7.30 pm to midnight. This is not the place for high maintenance Salseros. Nope... this is for the other type. The floor is tile - perfect for sneakers. The patio is open, the humidor is too, bottled beer is three bucks, there is no cover charge, parking is free, and DJ Ricubana will be playing timba, salsa and merengue. If that is not a deal, I don't know what is. On Monday night for the grand opening a few guys showed up with congas, a keyboard, maracas, a guiro, and the party just picked up unannounced. It was a night reminiscent of one in Puerto Rico... perhaps it should have reminded me of one in Cuba, but I've never been there... so... As long as people show up, the owner will keep Salsa Mondays going. Everything is served folks... all you have to do is go!
