DANCE COMPETITION FINALS AT KING KING - June 23, 2009
Dance instructor Abel Pena and his student Deborah took
first place at the dance competition finals held at King King, in
Hollywood, on Tuesday night. In a competition ala Dancing with
the Stars, where instructors paired up with their best students, the
first place winners were followed by Allien Ramirez and her student Ron
in second place, and Jose Valencia and his student Tatiana in third.
It was an interesting event hosted by a female comedian
that became funnier in direct relation to the amount of alcohol one
consumed and that was judged by five people, two of them familiar to the
salsa scene: Sasha and Randy. The format included interviews with
the competitors and feedback from the judges, some of which did what
they could to sound like King King's own version of Simon Cowell.
The competition was preceded by the performances of the best dancers
from
previous elimination nights, including Josey Neglia and her student
Ricardo, and Alfredo and his student Esmeralda.
The event concluded with social dancing to the music of DJ
Saoco.
