~by Dena Burroughs FRANKIE NEGRON AT EL REY THEATRE - November 24, 2007 It was almost midnight before Frankie Negron [http://www.myspace.com/frankienegron ] got on stage last night at the El Rey Theatre, but once there, he and his band sounded the way we expected them to. Frankie then performed for close to two hours, and sang many of the songs we remember him for, and some more. Frankie was preceded by a performance by Mirayda [http://www.myspace.com/miraydasmusic ] who was backed by a band made up of L.A. musicians, which included the horns of La Farandula de Cuba, and arranger/pianist Yalil Guerra. [http://www.yalilguerra.com ] This was my first time at the El Rey Theatre and I found the place quite nice. It was a nice choice by the Encore Music Group for this event. Frankie Negron showed that his voice is still lovely, not only that, that he can dance, and do his thing on the congas. As I write, the party must be just starting for his second concert in town, tonight at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello. Here's hoping everyone enjoys. And now, here are some pictures of Frankie Negron, his band, Mirayda, her band, and the dancers, at El Rey Theatre.
