CANO
ESTREMERA, LA FARANDULA DE CUBA, AND DJS KILIN AND PITIN, AT THE PHOENIX
CLUB, ANAHEIM - 5/26/07
Cano Estremera needs little introduction.
He is a talented and unique performer, with a fabulous voice, a great
sense of humor, and interesting opinions.
On the other hand, the Orquesta La Farandula, de Cuba, is just now
being introduced to the Southern California dancers and Salsa music
lovers. After touring all over Mexico, in January 07 the band decided to step
over to the U.S. to play, and to stay. Currently the live in San
Diego, ready and willing to work! They sound wonderful.
Their energy is abundant and contagious. It will be hardly a
surprise if they become popular all over the place and fast. (By the
way, for anyone interested in contacting them, I have the director's
information.) La Farandula played a set of their own and later
backed Cano Estremera for his set. In Cano's own words, he was "cantando
con una orquesta de profesores" (singing with an orchestra made up of
professors), which was a very nice and deserved compliment to La
Farandula.
The DJs Kilin and Pitin, from Puerto Rico, did their part in creating
a fun evening, with their music, videos, and their impressive set of
equipment - lights, large screens, even their own singing!
It was
really a great show. Props to Jose Sotomayor for taking on this
huge endeavor and allowing our community to enjoy such marvelous music.
Below are a few pictures and videos. Enjoy!
