~by Dena Burroughs SUNDAY AT THE SAN JOSE JAZZ FESTIVAL - August 10th, 2008 The San Jose Jazz Festival continued Sunday with a full day of performers throughout its several stages. San Francisco's Salsa band, Avance, [ http://www.avancemusic.com ] formed by percussionist Karl Perazzo, and by Costa Ricans Armando Cordoba, Jeff Cordoba, Luis Morales and Salvadorian/Jordanian, Jimmy Flores, performed on the Salsa stage at 4 pm. Their full of energy show included their by now signature "shakey shakey," for which members of the audience hopped on stage to move to the band's fast beats. Anthony Blea y Charanga [ http://www.anthonyblea.com ] performed on the same stage at 6 pm. Those with him included Cuban Orlando Torriente and Venezuelan Eduardo Herrera on vocals, Marco Diaz on piano, and Carlos Caro on timbales. Blea is a great violinist and his group performed beautifully. This listener highly recommends him. Closing at the Latin Jazz stage were, from New York, Chembo Corniel and Chaworo [ http://www.myspace.com/chemboro ], and with their last song concluded the 19th San Jose Jazz Festival. A festival representative joined Chembo on stage to encourage the audience to get involved with the mission of the San Jose Jazz organization - to continue providing quality music to the community at affordable prices and to introduce thousands of youngsters to music every year. For more details about their educational goals, future plans, and to become a member, visit http://www.sanjosejazz.org The 20th San Jose Jazz Festival is already scheduled for August 7-9, 2009. Get ready!
